人生如棋

世界如棋盘：棋子是宇宙万物，游戏规则就是所谓的自然规律。我们的对手藏而不露，我们无法谋面。我们知道，他总是公平、公正、富有耐心。我们付出了代价才知道，他不会忽视任何错误，也不会体谅我们丝毫的无知。

The chess-board is the world: thepieces are the phenomena of the universe; the rules of the game are what we call the laws of nature. The player on the other side is hidden from us. We know that his play is always fair, just and patient. But also we know, to our cost, that he never overlooks a mistake, or makes the smallest allowance for ignorance.
